Bank Holidays: Banks in India will remain closed for seven days in the month of September, as per the bank holiday list issued by the Reserve Bank of India (RBI). The holidays are based on state-wise, religious celebrations or festivals. Apart from the RBI list, there are six weekends as well which brings up the tally to 12 holidays for banks in September.

As per the weekend offs, banks will remain closed on September 5, 12, 19, 25 and 26.

The RBI itself has classified the August Bank Holidays as a ‘holiday under the Negotiable Instruments Act’. Other classifications for RBI listing are ‘Holiday under Negotiable Instruments Act and Real Time Gross Settlement Holiday’ and ‘Banks’ Closing of Accounts’. The other two classifications do not apply in the month of September.

Keeping all this in mind, bank goers should carefully plan their next business visit to the bank. More than the holidays themselves, it is the weekends that would pose more of a challenge as they are all-India bank holidays and back-to-back. The official list of RBI holidays on the other hand, are not as densely packed as the previous months, relatively speaking.
