On Day 8 of the 2018 CWG, India’s first Gold medal came from the Wrestling mat where Rahul Aware beat Steven Takahashi in the final of the Men’s 57kg freestyle wrestling event.

After that, the legendary Sushil Kumar took centrestage and absolutely stormed away with the second Gold medal for the day.It was his 3rd Gold in CWG history. Sushil thrashed Johannes Botha of South Africa by Technical Superiority.

Before him, Tejaswini Sawant added Silver in the Women’s 50m Prone final. Wrestler Babita Kumari also bagged Silver, while Kiran came away with Bronze. Outside the CWG, India’s Kidambi Srikanth has become World Number 1. 

 

On the overall medal tally, India held on the third position with 14 gold, six silver and nine bronze medals for a total of 24 so far.

Earlier, India’s Tejaswini Sawant got India’s first medal on Day 8 of the 2018 Commonwealth Games in Gold Coast when she won a Silver in the women’s 50m Rifle Prone event.

India’s AV Rakesh Babu and Arpinder Singh qualified for Men’s Triple Jump final. The final will take place on Saturday.

In squash, Indian pairs Dipika Pallikal and Saurav Saurav Goshal and Joshna Chinappa and Harinder Pal Singh advanced to the quarter-finals of the mixed doubles event.

Shuttlers PV Sindhu and Kidambi Srikanth reached to the quarter-finals with easy victories. India’s women’s hockey team looks to maintain its dominant run and qualify for the final.
