BCCI announces schedule for TATA IPL 2022
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) announced the schedule for TATA Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 which will be held in Mumbai and Pune.
A total number of 70 league matches and 4 Playoff games will be played in the duration of 65 days.
The 15th season will start on 26th March at the Wankhede stadium with a blockbuster clash between Chennai Super Kings and Kolkata Knight Riders.
A total of 10 teams will be part of IPL 2022. Lucknow Super Giants and Gujarat Titans are the two new teams that have been added to the tournament. Mumbai Indians, Chennai Super Kings, Rajasthan Royals, Royal Challengers Bangalore, Delhi Capitals, Kolkata Knight Riders, Punjab Kings, and Sunrisers Hyderabad are the other teams.
Due to the addition of 10 teams, a mega auction was also conducted ahead of the tournament. A total of 204 players were bought during the auction. Hence, all the teams have also witnessed a lot of changes in their squads for IPL 2022.

IPL 2022 Venues
Due to safety against COVID, IPL 2022 will take place only in Maharashtra. Mumbai, Navi Mumbai, and Pune are the three cities that will host all the matches. There are 4 stadiums that will host all the games.
Wankhede Stadium and Brabourne Stadium in Mumbai, DY Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai, and MCA International Stadium in Pune are the 4 venues where the matches of IPL 2022 will take place. Wankhede Stadium and DY Patil Stadium will host 20 matches each. Brabourne Stadium and MCA International Stadium will host 15 games each.
Each team will play 4 matches each at DY Patil Stadium and Wankhede Stadium and 3 matches each at Brabourne Stadium and MCA International Stadium. These stadiums will only host league matches. The venues of the playoffs games are yet to be decided.
IPL 2022 Groups
All the 10 teams are divided into two virtual groups for IPL 2022. In group A, there are teams like Mumbai Indians, Kolkata Knight Riders, Rajasthan Royals, Delhi Capitals, and Lucknow Super Giants. In group B, there are teams like Chennai Super Kings, Sunrisers Hyderabad, Royal Challengers Bangalore, Punjab Kings, and Gujarat Titans.

Each team will play two matches with the teams of their own group. They will also play two matches against the team on the same spot in the opposite group. With the rest of the teams of the opposite group, each team will play one match.
However, all the teams will be ranked on the same points table according to their performances. 4 teams that finish on the top spot in the points table after the league stage will qualify for playoffs.
