New Indian Railway travel concessions in passenger fare are introduced which ranges from 10% to 100%. Almost 53 categories of passengers and the element of concession range from 10% to 100%. As per the Minister of Railways and Commerce & Industry, The passengers, who are eligible to avail these concessions should be from any of these categories – physically challenged, patients, senior citizens, Izzat MST (Monthly Season Ticket). Senior Citizens of foreign nationals and Non-resident Indians (NRIs) have been excluded from the senior citizen category for the purpose of concession in passenger fare. No concession has been given in the newly introduced trains like Humsafar, Antyodaya, Gatimaan and Vande Bharat. 

Concession being offered by Indian Railways to different categories of persons is mentioned in the table created below

AIDS patients – for treatment/check-up at nominated ART Centres — 50% in 2nd class

Patients suffering from Aplastic Anaemia traveling for treatment/periodical check-up to recognized hospitals by Mail/Express Trains. — 50% in basic fares of  SL, AC-2-tier, 3AC, AC chair car classes.

 

Patients suffering from Sickle Cell Anaemia traveling for treatment/periodical check-up to recognized hospitals by Mail/Express Trains. — 50% in basic fares of  SL, AC-2-tier, 3AC, AC chair car classes.

However, there are rules for availing concession for traveling in Indian Railways:

  • Indian Railways concession is applicable only on the basic fare and not on other charges like superfast surcharge, reservation fee, etc, Indian Railways said
  • In case of Rajdhani, Shatabdi or Jan Shatabdi trains the concession shall be admissible on the total charges (including catering fee) of these trains.
  • The concessions will be admissible subject to the minimum distance of 300 kilometers, except in the case of students, blind, orthopedically handicapped/paraplegic persons, TB and cancer patients
  • Only one type of concession is admissible at a time at the choice of passenger and no person is allowed two or more concessions simultaneously.
