Sansad TV was jointly launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Vice President M Venkaiah Naidu, and Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla on September 15, 2021, coincidentally on the International Day of Democracy. 

Sansad TV is a merger of Lok Sabha TV and Rajya Sabha TV channels. The channel will be operational 24-hours. It will aim to showcase the democratic ethos and functioning of democratic institutions of the country to target both national and international audiences.

The decision to merge Lok Sabha TV and Rajya Sabha TV was taken in February 2021 and retired IAS officer Ravi Capoor was appointed as its CEO in March.

Addressing the event, the Prime Minister lauded the transformation of the channel associated with the Parliament in accordance with rapidly changing times. “The launch of Sansad TV is a new chapter in the story of Indian democracy as, in the form of Sansad TV, the country is getting a medium of communication and dialogue which will become a new voice of the nation’s democracy and people’s representative,” the PM said.

Today is International Day of Democracy, hence the launch has become more relevant. When it comes to democracy, India’s responsibility increases. India is the mother of democracy. For us, democracy is not just a constitutional structure, but a spirit, it’s ‘Jeevan Dhara,” PM Modi said.
The Prime Minister said that the new channel will be available on OTT platforms, social media and have a separate mobile app as well.

According to reports, veteran Congress leader Karan Singh, economist Bibek Debroy, NITI Aayog CEO Amitabh Kant, and advocate Hemant Batra will host different shows on this new channel.

When Parliament is in session, Sansad TV will have two channels so that the proceedings of both the Lok Sabha and the Rajya Sabha can be aired simultaneously.

In February 2021, the decision to merge Lok Sabha TV and Rajya Sabha TV was taken and Ravi Capoor- a retired IAS officer, was appointed as its CEO in March.

Sansad TV will merge the two parliamentarian channels Lok Sabha TV and Rajya Sabha TV. This decision to make a single, new entity was taken in February 2021 with the CEO of Sansad TV appointed the next month.
