The latest player to return home was Australian fast bowler Pat Cummins who was withdrawn from the IPL after playing 13 consecutive Test matches in the past year, with a “bone oedema in his vertebrae” which translates to a swelling in the joint of the back. Cricket Australia confirmed Cummins’ return from India today, stating that he needs a period of recover and rehabilitation keeping in mind Australia’s tour of England in two months.
The 24-year-old had been purchased by defending champions Mumbai Indians for Rs 5.4 crore from a base price of Rs 2 crore. Cummins did not feature in Mumbai’s IPL 11 opener against Chennai Super Kings on Saturday.
Chennai Super Kings received a big blow on Tuesday night when Kedar Jadhav was ruled out for the rest of the tournament with a hamstring injury.
Jadhav, who sustained hamstring pull during the team’s tournament opener versus Mumbai Indians on Saturday night, underwent scans at a city hospital and the results showed he had a Grade 2 tear.
The world’s top-ranked Test bowler Kagiso Rabada has been ruled out of the Indian Premier League after being diagnosed with a lower back stress reaction, Cricket South Africa said on Thursday.
Rabada was due to play for the Delhi Daredevils in this year’s IPL Twenty20 competition, but is now in a race to be fit for South Africa’s two-Test tour of Sri Lanka in mid-July. Liam Plunkett has replaced him in the DD squad.
Australians Steve Smith and David Warner were barred following their involvement in the ball-tampering scandal in South Africa, while their compatriot Mitchell Starc has pulled out with injury.
Other Player to miss out IPL 2018 due to injuries include Mitchell Santner, Jason Beherendoff, Nathan Coulternile.
