The UIDAI (Unique Identification Authority of India) continues to add new features to Aadhaar to make it more secure. The latest feature introduced is called the ‘Masked Aadhaar.’ This option allows the cardholder to partially cover the 12-digit unique identity in the downloaded Aadhaar or e-Aadhaar. It will be useful in cases where you are not comfortable with sharing your Aadhaar number details.
What is a Masked Aadhaar?
We already have the password enabled e-Aadhaar that is the protected electronic copy of Aadhaar, digitally signed by UIDAI. The e-Aadhaar is as valid as the physical copy of Aadhaar and you can use it as a proof of identity anywhere required.
On Friday, the UIDAI introduced a new option in the e-Aadhaar, which allows you to mask the digits of the Aadhaar number in a way that only the last 4 digits show. The ‘Masked Aadhaar’ will still show demographic information, photograph, and the QR code.
How to download Masked Aadhaar?
To download the Masked Aadhaar, go to the e-aadhaar facility of the UIDAI website that is https://uidai.gov.in/ or directly visit https://eaadhaar.uidai.gov.in/#/ . While filling the form to download an e-Aadhaar, choose the ‘Masked’ option over ‘Regular.’ Refer picture below.
