Universal Account Number (UAN) is a unique number allotted by EPFO to its members. UAN was launched with an aim to link multiple Member Identification Numbers (Member Id) which is allotted to a single member for easy tracking of funds.
When an employee leaves and joins another company, he is required to get the funds and other details transferred to the new account.
With UAN, one can transfer EPF funds from one account to another account by the linking the same. This is possible if the KYC details of both the employers have been verified.
There are chances that a person can be allotted two UAN from a different employer, this could be because of not filing of Date of Exit by your previous employer in ECR filing or you have applied for transfer of service in your current establishment.
How to merge Universal Account Number EPF Accounts?
In such cases, individuals should immediately report the matter to your employer and through email to uanepf@epfindia.gov.in by mentioning, both your current Universal Account Number and your previous UAN(s).
Once the verification is done, the previous UAN(s) allotted will be blocked and the current Universal Account Number will be kept active.
Once the previous Universal Account Number are blocked, you have to submit a claim form, so that your funds are transferred to your current UAN.

Note that you will not be able to link previous Member IDs if the details are not matching.
What are the facilities of having Universal Account Number?
Individuals with UAN have facilities to download passbook, download UAN Card, list previous member IDs, enter KYC Details and check eligibility for online transfer claim.
EPF member can apply for any changes such as a correction in name or other details in the EPF account along with relating documents and proof. The same should be submitted to your employer.
Usually, the procedure is when you join a new company you need to declare UAN to your new employers in Form-11 (Declaration Form).
