IPL 2019 schedule to be announced after general elections dates are out.
The upcoming edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) is all set to get underway from March 23. However, the tournament’s schedule is yet to be announced with the BCCI waiting for the dates of the general elections to be announced. As per a report, a BCCI official has confirmed that the schedule for IPL 2019 will be announced in March after the dates of general elections are out.
Earlier, there were reports that the schedule of IPL 2019 can be announced this week. However, it seems unlikely as the BCCI is considering delaying of the announcement to ensure a smooth tournament. The IPL this time around is going to clash with general elections, which might see the home and away format get ditched for the Caravan format where teams might not necessarily play all their home games at their decided home ground.
After rumors that the schedule will be announced soon, a BCCI official confirmed that the schedule will be out only after the election dates are out.
“The schedule will take some time as we need to wait for the general election dates to be released by the election commission. Since this is the most important event in the calendar year, one has to ensure that we work according to the dates and plan the games in a way that everything is in sync. We all know the kind of arrangement that goes behind hosting elections and that is the priority,” a BCCI official was quoted as saying.
All eight IPL franchises made full use of the Player auction which was conducted last year to strengthen their squad for the new season of world’s biggest T20 league. While there were quite a few surprise buys in the auction, a host of Indian youngsters like Varun Chakravathi, Shivam Dube and Prabh Simran Singh bagged big money contracts in the auction.
The final of the Indian Premier League 2019 will be played in Chennai this year as Chennai Super Kings won the title last year.
