Tensions along the Indo-Pakistan border have escalated after India carried out aerial strikes on terrorist camps in Pakistan on February 26. The strikes were carried out after intelligence reports suggested that there was a JeM terrorist training camp in Balakot in Pakistan.

The precision strike deep in Pakistan territory was a success. The next day, in a poorly planned attack, PAF tried to intrude into the Indian air space with it F 16 fighters. They were repulsed by the IAF and a Mig 21 was scrambled. In the aerial combat, India allegedly shot down an F-16 Jet coming from across the border on February 27. Situation got worse when Pakistan claimed that they have an Indian aircraft pilot in custody and the videos of the same started doing rounds on the internet.

Addressing a joint media briefing the MEA spokesperson said that Pakistan response to India’s strike a day ago by targeting Indian military establishments. MEA spokesperson Raveesh Kumar said India has successfully foiled the Pakistani attempts. He, however, admitted that an Mig-21 of the Indian Air Force was shot down and the pilot has been missing in action.

Although we hope the situation doesn’t escalate further, here’s a look at how the two air forces compare.
