International flights: The Centre started the ‘Vande Bharat Mission’ on May 6 to help those stranded due to the novel coronavirus pandemic reach their destinations via international repatriation flights.

According to the Civil Aviation Ministry, 11,866 repatriation flights were operated by the Air India Group under the Vande Bharat Mission till December 19, carrying over 15.60 lakh passengers. Of these, 5,931 were inbound flights carrying 9,64,045 passengers and 5,935 were outbound flights with 5,96,898 fliers.

The mission is currently in Phase 7 which will continue until March 28, 2021.

Mean-while, India reported 24,337 new Covid-19 cases in the past 24 hours. So far, more than one crore and 55 thousand people have been infected. With 333 fatalities reported on Sunday, the death toll touched 1,45,810. There are as many as 3.03 lakh active cases in the country, while 96,06,111 people have recovered from the disease. Kerala is the only state to report more than 5,000 cases.

As India’s top regulator has asked three vaccine manufacturers for additional data on late-stage trials to consider clearing their candidates for emergency use, Health Minister Dr. Harsh Vardhan said on Sunday that he believes “personally” that India could be in a position to begin administering the vaccine to the public “maybe” next month.
