India’s Ravindra Jadeja climbed to the top spot in the ICC Test rankings for all-rounders on Wednesday after his match-winning performance against Sri Lanka in the opening Test in Mohali.

“Ravindra Jadeja’s performance at India’s recent Test win against Sri Lanka in Mohali has catapulted him to the no. 1 position in the MRF Tyres ICC Men’s Test Player Rankings,” the ICC said in a statement.

Ravindra Jadeja jumped 17 places in ICC Test batting rankings, from 54th to 37th position, courtesy of his unbeaten 175-run knock in the first innings against Sri Lanka, and picked nine wickets in the same match to move to top spot in ICC Test all-rounders rankings.

Jadeja’s all-round performance against Sri Lanka was enough to remove West Indies’ star all-rounder Jason Holder from the top spot, who had held the No. 1 spot since February 2021. Team India had won the first test by an innings and 222 runs and Jadeja was adjudged ‘Player of the Match’.

The last time Jadeja had attained the top spot in ICC Men’s all-rounder rankings was in August 2017, but for just one week.

Holder is now at the second spot while Jadeja’s teammate Ravichandran Ashwin slipped to the third spot.

Meanwhile former India captain Virat Kohli, who played his 100th Test recently, returned to the top five in Test rankings for batters and wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant entered the top 10 on the back of his swashbuckling 96-run knock in Mohali.

Australia’s Marnus Labuschagne remained the top-ranked batter in the world, and his rating of 936 has him at No.12 on the all-time list, with Ricky Ponting, Steve Smith and Don Bradman the only Aussies rated higher than the 27-year-old.

There were no major changes in the top ten of the men’s rankings for bowlers, and just one move in that number, with Neil Wagner and Josh Hazlewood swapping places at eighth and ninth respectively.

In the new ICC Men’s T20I player rankings, Bangladesh’s Nasum Ahmed was the big mover among the bowlers, jumping up 17 places to make the top ten.

South Africa’s Anrich Nortje moved up to seventh above Mujeeb Ur Rahman.
