SAMRIDH Scheme: The Ministry of Electronics and Information and Technology (MeitY) on August 25, 2021, launched the Start-up Accelerators MeitY for Product Innovation, Development, and Growth (SAMRIDH). The scheme aims to boost the start-up ecosystem in India and aid in creating a conducive platform for Indian Software Product start-ups to secure investments for scaling their products and business. The MeitY Start-up Hub (MSH) is implementing the SAMRIDH scheme.

PM Narendra Modi in his Independence Speech on August 15, 2021, had said that start-ups are the new types of wealth creators in our country. The Indian government is relentlessly working towards making Indian start-ups and the start-up ecosystem the best in the world. The Electronics and Information Technology Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw in an event had said that the Indian government will support the start-ups and entrepreneurs in the initial risk phase.

What is SAMRIDH scheme?

The Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology on August 25, 2021, launched the Start-up Accelerators MeitY for Product Innovation, Development, and Growth (SAMRIDH) scheme. Implemented by the MeitY Start-up Hub (MSH), the scheme aims at creating a conducive platform for Indian Software Product start-ups to secure investments for scaling their products and business.

How will SAMRIDH scheme select start-ups?

The scheme will select start-ups in India that are all set for the acceleration stage. The Government will offer financial assistance, mentorship, and other required support to the selected start-ups at this stage.

Benefits And Features Of SAMRIDH Scheme

  • In order to provide various types of benefits to push startup ecosystem, the government have launched MeitY SAMRIDH scheme
  • Through this scheme, the government is going to provide financial support to the startup that has a brilliant solution and proof of concept for their product
  • This scheme will inspire a lot of citizens to start their own business
  • The Ministry of electronics and information technology will be responsible for implementing this scheme
  • The startups will get a platform to enhance their product and secure investment in order to scale their business
  • Under this scheme, the existing and upcoming accelerators will be provided support for extending their services
  • The government is going to provide funding up to Rs 40 lakh to the startups according to their current valuation and growth stage to accelerators
  • The accelerators are invited to apply online to become partners with MeitY and provide a startup accelerator program of 6 months every year

Implementing Agency Of MeitY SAMRIDH Scheme

  • MeitY SAMRIDH Scheme will be implemented through MeitY startup Hub
  • Implementing agencies going to form a project management unit
  • This unit will be responsible for implementing this screen
  • MeitY startup hub will take equity in a startup for government contribution via promissory of or safe note same as an accelerator which will utilize for self-sustainability of the program
  • Scheme Management Committee will also be constituted in order to oversee all aspects related to the effective implementation of the scheme
  • The scheme Management Committee will be responsible for reviewing the progress of the program in terms of its objective from time to time
  • This committee is also responsible for providing guidance and recommending changes or amendments for the improvement of the program

Eligibility Criteria

  • The Accelerator must have been in the business of incubation for more than 3 years. Accelerator must have supported at least 50 startups of which at least 10 have received nonpublic investment or have targeted accelerator program with an experience of running at least 3 cohorts with activities listed as desirable under Samridh
  • Accelerator must have operations in India
  • The accelerators must have the necessary space and infrastructure to carry out activities of the startup
  • Should have demonstration capability with regard to
    • Structure cohort for accelerating deep-tech software product startup
    • Onboarded with a leading business mentor
    • Network/connect with venture capitalist/Angel investor
    • Supporting startup for domestic and international market immersion

Selection Procedure Of Accelerators

  • The implementing agencies will invite expression of interest from the eligible accelerators
  • An expert committee will be responsible for selecting the accelerators and comprising representatives for government, industry, and investor
  • Those accelerators who have prior experience of running cohorts will be prioritized over others

Services And Activities Of Accelerator

In order to fit the needs of each startup, the accelerator will be tasked with developing customized acceleration programs in the cohort and provide services that range from customer connect, investor connect, capacity enhancement, product enhancement, etc. The budget of the above-mentioned activities is 2 lakh per start-up to a maximum of 20 lakh per cohort. In each of the cohorts which are organized by the shortlisted accelerator, a maximum of 10 startups and a minimum of 5 startups can be supported who are working in the domain area of the software products.   • Co learning
  • Monitoring of startup through experts on the basis of tech vertical
  • Legal assistance for all matters: IP, in cooperation and other matters
  • Connected learning, networking through a shared platform
  • Weekly meets between founders of all startups
  • Demo day: presentation with VCs and Angel investors
  • Assistance to startups in negotiation and closing investment deals with VCs and Angel investors
