Due to the Republic Day parade rehearsals and security requirements, the Delhi airspace is being closed for two hours on January 21-24, and January 26, 2020. Under this, the Delhi airport will turn into a no-fly zone between 10.35 am and 12.15 pm. Due to closure of airspace over Delhi these days, flight operations of all airlines are likely to be impacted. Air passengers traveling on any of these days are advised to check with their respective airlines and plan accordingly. Also, passengers should try and reach much before the time due to stringent security to avoid any inconvenience.
According to a notice to airmen (NOTAM) issued by the Airports Authority of India (AAI) on Sunday, “no landing and take-off” would be “permitted” at Delhi International Airport between 10.35 am and 12.15 pm on January 18, 20-24 and 26, due to “Republic Day Celebrations“.
Budget carriers like IndiGo, Spicejet and Vistara have issued a travel advisory on flight delays and disruptions for passengers flying on the above-mentioned dates.
Indigo said, “Due to heightened security owing to Republic Day, passengers may face rush at the airports. We request all passengers to reach the airport at least three hours prior to departure to avoid any hassle.”
Vistara said in a tweet, “Flights to and from Delhi on January 18, 20th – 24th and 26th Jan might be affected due to airspace restrictions for Republic Day rehearsals. Please SMS UK<flight no> to 9289228888 for updated flight status.”
In order to facilitate the uninterrupted movement of the parade on Rajpath, the Delhi Traffic Police has imposed restrictions on vehicular movement at Rafi Marg, Janpath and Mansingh Road from 9 am to 12 noon on 21st January
Along with flight operations, the vehicular movement in certain parts of Delhi will also be affected.
