Tokyo Olympics Day 6 updates: Indian boxer Satish Kumar moved into the quarterfinals of the men’s +91 kg super heavyweight category by beating Jamaica’s Ricardo Brown. Archer Atanu Das advanced after beating former Olympic & World Champion Oh Jinhyek of South Korea. India beat Argentina 3-1 in men’s hockey pool  match to confirm a spot in quarterfinal. PV Sindhu advances to quarterfinals in badminton women’s singles, beats Denmark’s Mia Blichfeldt 21-15, 21-13 in the round of 16. Rahi Sarnobat scored 96, 97, 94 (287/300) in Precision round of 25m pistol Qualification. Rowers Arjun Jat and Arvind Singh finish in the fifth position with a time mark of 6:29.66 in Men’s Lightweight Double Sculls Final B, finishing 11th overall. Boxer Mary Kom will be in action. 

 

Atanu Das stunned South Korea’s Oh Jin Hyek to make it to the 1/8 Elimination round in the men’s individual archery event at the Yumenoshima Ranking Field on Friday. The Indian archer shot a ’10’ to eliminate the 2012 Olympic gold medallist in a shoot-off after the match was tied at 5-5 after five sets. The official India handle for the ongoing Tokyo Olympics took to Twitter to share the highlights of the thrilling shoot-off, and captioned it as, “.@ArcherAtanu of #IND wins 6-5 in a sensational shoot-off against #KOR’s London 2012 Olympic champion Oh Jinhyek in Men’s #Archery 1/16 Eliminations”.

 

Boxing: London bronze medallist Mary Kom will next be in action from 3:36 pm. She will be taking on Colombian Ingrit Valencia, Rio 2016 bronze medallist, for a place in the quarterfinals. The last time the two met, Kom beat Valencia 5:0 in the quarterfinals of the 2019 world championships in Yekaterinburg, Russia.

Sailing: India’s KC Ganapathy and Varun Thakkar finish in 16th position in Men’s Skiff-49er Race 05. They showed vast improvement to finish 7th in Race 6 for an overall 17th place at the end of Thursday’s races. In the women’s Laser radial class, Nethra Kumanan finished 22nd and 20th in Race 7 and 8 to finish the day placed 31st overall.
