While you may not get confirmed berths each time you book a train ticket, you can find out if your ticket stands a chance of being confirmed thanks to a new predictive service on the IRCTC website. IRCTC will let Indian Railways passengers know the probability of confirmation of wait-listed tickets based on a new algorithm developed by the Centre for Railway Information Systems (CRIS).
IRCTC next-generation e-ticketing website has been revamped (earlier) and now has one of the coolest features for waitlisted and RAC ticket holders! Indian Railways catering arm, IRCTC (Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation), had launched a new version of its e-ticketing website, irctc.co.in. Now, when you enter the IRCTC website, a beta version is available for trial by passengers on the top left-hand corner of the site. The new revamped IRCTC website has several new passenger-friendly measures – from no requirement of login to check train status and availability of tickets to an easier user interface. But, one particular feature that stands out with a software that allows passengers to see the probability of their waitlisted or RAC ticket getting confirmed. Developed by CRIS (Centre For Railway Information Systems), the new software for waitlisted passengers makes use of historical data to come up with a percentage probability of the ticket getting confirmed.
How to check for waitlist confirmation on irctc.co.in
• People who do not have confirmed tickets can check for the probability of confirmation by clicking on ‘CNF Probability’ and it will be displayed in terms of percentage. For instance, it showed a 95 per cent probability of confirmation for the train ticket when the general waiting list was three.
IRCTC says it analyses current and past trends to predict the probability of confirmation, which may differ from actual status. The information may not always be accurate, but the information itself could prove to be helpful in deciding whether to go ahead with the journey, based on confirmation probability.
IRCTC.co.in website’s ‘My Transactions’ option has been updated as well with new filters that enable users to view previously booked tickets based on journey date, upcoming and completed journey, booking date, and more. For those planning for a journey ahead can look for trains for other days and fare break-up. Thanks to the ‘Vikalp’ option, users can change boarding point or look for alternate trains. As for payment options, users can mark six banks under the My profile section. Booked tickets can be requested for on SMS.
