Reliance Jio today announced the launch of nation-wide Voice & Video over Wi-Fi service. The new service allows Jio customers to make and receive calls over a WiFi network using their existing Jio number without any extra charge.
To make calls one needs to have WiFi calling service in your handset. Jio has issued a step-by-step guide on its website: Jio.com/wificalling — where you can find whether your device supports the calling feature or not.
Jio was testing this service over the past few months.

How to make Wi-Fi call from Jio number
* Open phone settings
* Search for WiFi calling option
*Enable WiFi calling option.
*Connect to a Wi-Fi network to start making Wi-Fi calls anywhere in India
* You should keep both VoLTE and WiFi Calling switched on.
* You will have to follow the same process as traditional voice calls
*Your phone will automatically toggle between Wi-Fi and cellular network for best quality calling.
Who is eligible for Wi-Fi calling?
You just need a smartphone that has Wi-Fi calling facility and an active Jio tariff plan.
What are the calling charges of Jio WiFi calling?
According to Jio, the calling facility is free of charge and is included as part of your existing plan. Any calls to Indian numbers are free of charge, but calls to international numbers will be charged as per “International Calls” rates. You can also make a Wi-Fi call during roaming.

Earlier, Bharti Airtel had announced Airtel Wi-Fi Calling service for its customers in Delhi, Mumbai, Tamil Nadu, Kolkata and Andhra Pradesh. The service is compatible with a number of premium smartphones.
