Netflix at 199: Netflix launches the Made for India mobile-only plan for Rs 199 per month. For now, this Rs 199/month is limited only to India and isn’t available in any other parts of the world. However, Netflix executives have confirmed that the company is testing the plan in some other parts of the world. With the Rs 199 per month, Netflix is aiming to bring a personalized experience to the smartphone users in India.
Netflix has officially revealed that India has the biggest smartphone user base, globally. The streaming service is also aiming to target tier two and tier three segment of the country. The Rs 199 plan goes live today and supports only one screen. The mobile-only plan supports SD streaming. It has launched its cheapest mobile plan and priced it completely at Rs 199 to expand its subscriber base in the country and to better compete with the likes of Hotstar.
Ajay Arora, director, product innovation at Netflix said that India subscribers watch more on their mobiles than subscribers anywhere else in the world. “We believe this new plan will make Netflix even more accessible and better suit people who like to watch on their smartphones and tablets – both on the go and at home,” he added.
The company said that almost half of Netflix India users downloaded at least one film or episode-in- series on June 2019.
Announced at ‘Netflix House’ event in New Delhi, the company said its Indian users stream Netflix more on their mobile phone than any other device. Netflix also said its users in India are among the highest downloaders of content globally. Going forward, Netflix is going to make more investments in India for smartphone users.

With the low-cost plan, the video streaming service Netflix wants to compete with other video streaming services in India like Hotstar, Amazon Prime Video, ALT Balaji, Zee5, among others. Until now, in India Netflix offered three plans starting at Rs 500 and which goes up to Rs 800/month.
Currently, in India, Netflix has three plans. One is the basic plan for which the user needs to pay Rs 499 every month. Second, a standard plan which costs Rs 649/per month, and lastly there’s a Premium plan for which the user will need to pay Rs 799/month. Under Rs 499 plan users get one screen, under Rs 649 users get two screens and lastly under Rs 799 plan subscribers offer four screens. And now Netflix at 199 is available. Netflix offers Indian Customers to stream videos at Rs 199 with Standard Definition over one screen.
