YouTube is adding a new indicator to show its users when a channel is live streaming on the platform, its chief product officer Neal Mohan has announced on Twitter. The American online video sharing and social media platform said the new feature that will make it easier for users to identify a channel when it’s live streaming.
.
If you haven’t noticed it already, this new YouTube feature looks quite similar to that of TikTok that shows a pulsating ring around the channel’s profile picture when a channel is live on the platform. On Instagram, you can spot if a channel is live by a colorful ring that appears around the profile picture of the account.

Neal Mohan, Chief Product Officer, YouTube said in a tweet, “Really focused making it easier for users to find live streams on @YouTube so we’re rolling out the Live rings feature on mobile! @YouTubeCreators streaming live will now have a ring around the channel avatar and clicking on the avatar will take you directly to the livestream.”
.
“Live is another area that will see progress this year to build on our momentum — daily live watch time more than tripled between January 2020 and December 2021,” Mohan further said. The platform is also planning on introducing collaborative live streaming, which will allow creators to go live together.
.
Mohan said while he couldn’t share an exact date, picture-in-picture support on iOS should arrive “hopefully in the next few months” for YouTube TV users. The feature has been available to Android users for quite a while, but support for YouTube TV users on iOS is long overdue.

YouTube TV is also working on expanding some other features that include surround sound, which was launched last year on a very limited subset of devices.
