Here is the updated list of new sporting competitions that will take place during the 2022 Commonwealth Games in Birmingham, United Kingdom, which will take place from 28th July to 8th August.

Basketball 3×3:

This sport’s format is ready for action-packed rapid play as it makes its CWG debut. At the Games in Melbourne in 2006 and Gold Coast in 2018, a 5×5 version of the game was presented. The venue for the event is Smithfield. Eight Commonwealth nations will compete in this event, including the host, the top team from each of the six GCF regions in the FIBA 3×3 Federation Rankings, and the highest-ranked team that has not already qualified. There will only be a half-court, one basket, and 12 seconds on the shot clock for each team, as opposed to 24 seconds in full-court Basketball. Each squad should have three regular players and one backup. Shots that land inside the arc-shaped zone get one point each, while photos that land behind the arc earn two points. A team that scores 21 points first wins. The side in the lead is declared the winner if no team reaches the score after 10 minutes.

Women’s T20 Cricket

Women’s cricket will debut during T20 Cricket, which also makes its CWG debut. The games will be placed at Birmingham’s Edgbaston Cricket Ground. However, cricket has been played before, most notably in the men’s 50-over competition, which South Africa won at the 1998 Kuala Lumpur Games. Eight teams have qualified for the tournament. The top six ranked groups as of 1st April 2021, and England as the host automatically qualify. Sri Lanka, which had won the CWG Qualifier competition, received last place. The distribution of the six direct qualifiers will depend on their representation of at least four of the six areas of the Commonwealth Games Federation (Africa, Americas, Asia, Caribbean, Europe, and Oceania). Teams placed lower were taken into consideration if the criteria weren’t satisfied. The six direct qualifiers are Australia, India, New Zealand, South Africa, Pakistan, and Barbados.

India has been improving its performance in sports over the years worldwide in several sporting competitions. India is hoping for medals from these athletes participating in the Commonwealth games 2022. Last time in CWG 2018, India won 16 medals, including 7 gold medals. But in this edition, India will definitely improve the medals in the medal tally.
