COVID-19 Vaccine at various developmental stages: The Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) on Sunday said that no vaccine has yet been developed for the treatment of coronavirus.
However, there are over 40 vaccines, which are under various stages of development but none have reached the final stage- said Dr. Manoj Murhekar of ICMR while speaking to media.
“In the last five days, the average number of samples that have been tested is 15,747 per day and the average number of samples which tested positive is 584,” he(Dr. Manoj Murhekar) added.
There are more than 20 companies, worldwide, which are working on coronavirus treatments or vaccines.
With almost 800 new positive COVID-19 cases in the last 24 hours and 31 deaths, the total number of coronavirus cases in India on Sunday climbed to 9152, including almost 860 cured and discharged, 1 migrated and over 300 deaths, said the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare.
As the nationwide lockdown nears an end, hotspots or infection clusters across India have been sealed in different states from the past week. The dramatic rise in the number of cases is been complicating the government’s efforts to contain the spread of COVID-19.
More than three billion people around the world are living under lockdown for the past few days as governments stepped up their efforts against the coronavirus pandemic which has left more than 114,240 people dead worldwide.
Globally, the total coronavirus cases surged Over 1.8 million while the death toll rose over 1,14,247, according to the latest data from Johns Hopkins University. The US with over 5.5 lakh cases was the worst affected country, followed by Spain with 1.7 lakh infections and Italy with over 1.6 lakh infections. In terms of the death toll, the United States reported over 22,115 death, followed by Italy at over 19,899 and Spain with nearly 17,500 deaths.
