T20 World Cup squad: The 2021 ICC Men’s T20 World Cup is scheduled to be the seventh ICC Men’s T20 World Cup tournament,[1] which is planned to held at United Arab Emirates and Oman. The player ages are as on 17 October 2021, the opening day of the tournament, and where a player plays for more than one team in Twenty20 cricket, only their domestic team is listed (for example: at the time, Jos Buttler played for Lancashire Lightning).
Right-hander Shreyas Iyer was excluded from Sunil Gavaskar’s squad as well. The other two all-rounders who were picked are Ravindra Jadeja and Washington Sundar.
Apart from the two surprising omission, Gavaskar’s list largely includes those you would expect to be part of the squad. It is led by Virat Kohli with Rohit Sharma, KL Rahul, Rishabh Pant, Krunal Pandya, Jasprit Bumrah among others making the cut.
Dhawan was named the captain of India’s limited-overs squad for the Sri Lanka tour earlier this year in July. Iyer, on the other hand, has been out of action since March this year after a shoulder injury and is all set to make his competitive return in the second phase of IPL 2021, also to be held in UAE.
“You can see in UK, the 25-member squad doesn’t seem to be enough or in Sri Lanka, we had to bring in net bowlers for the T20 series. So, there will be more than 15 players. And it should not be a problem because all the players will be moving from the IPL bubble to the T20 World Cup bubble,” the source added.
India’s Potential 15-member squad for T20 World Cup:
- KL Rahul
- Rohit Sharma (VC)
- Virat Kohli (capt)
- Suryakumar Yadav
- Rishabh Pant (WK)
- Ravindra Jadeja
- Shardul Thakur / Deepak Chahar

- Jasprit Bumrah
- Mohammed Siraj
- Yuzvendra Chahal
- Hardik Pandya
- Ishan Kishan (WK) / Shreyas Iyer
- Bhuvneshwar Kumar
