German marque Volkswagen has launched the much-awaited Virtus sedan in India with prices starting at Rs 11.22 lakh (ex-showroom) and going up to Rs 17.92 lakh (ex-showroom). The car comes with four trim options- Comfortline, Highline, and Topline available with the 1.0-liter TSI, and the GT Plus available with the 1.5-liter TSI.
What’s good about it?
The vehicle is equipped with over 40 active and passive safety features such as six airbags, multi-collision brakes, tire pressure deflation warning, rear-view camera, three-head restraints at the rear, and more. As for convenience, the Virtus is equipped with a range of smart features like KESSY (keyless entry and engine start), an electric sunroof, smart-touch ‘Climatronic’ auto AC, front ventilated seats, multi-functional steering wheel, 521-liters of boot space, rear seats with 60:40 split-folding backrest, auto headlights, cooled glove box, and cruise control.
Inside, the Volkswagen Virtus has an interior layout similar to its SUV sibling, the Taigun. It gets a 10-inch infotainment display with wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, while an 8-inch display is used for the instrument panel. Features include automatic climate control, 60:40 split rear seats, sunroof, six airbags, ventilated front seats, wireless smartphone charger, steering-mounted controls, 521-liter boot, and more.
Volkswagen has divided the Virtus lineup based on the engine into the Dynamic Line and Performance Line, using the 1.0 TSI and the 1.5 TSI respectively. The 1.0-litre puts out 110bhp and 178Nm of torque and comes mated to either a 6-speed manual or a 6-speed automatic. The larger 1.5-liter TSI EVO engine has access to 150bhp and 250Nm of torque and comes mated to a 7-speed DSG transmission only.

Prices for the Volkswagen Virtus start at Rs 11.22 lakh for the base Comfortline with the 1.0 TSI with manual transmission. The Topline with the 1.0 TSI and automatic transmission is priced at Rs 15.72 lakh. The Volkswagen Virtus GT Plus with the 1.5 TSI and DSG transmission is priced at Rs 17.92 lakh (all prices ex-showroom).

The car is part of Volkswagen Group’s India 2.0 project of which products like the VW Taigun, Skoda Slavia and Skoda Kushaq are a part. The Virtus will compete against the Honda City, Hyundai Verna, and its Czech-branded sibling, the Skoda Slavia.
