Mukesh Ambani, on Thursday, announced Jio Phone Next, a smartphone developed jointly by Google and Reliance Jio.
“I am pleased to announce that Google and Jio teams have jointly developed a truly breakthrough smartphone – JIOPHONE NEXT. It is a fully featured smartphone supporting the entire suite of applications from both Google and Jio,” said Mukesh Ambani at the Reliance Industries Ltd’s (RIL) 44th Annual General Meeting (AGM).
Mukesh Ambani-led Reliance Industries Limited has announced JioPhone Next, an entry-level 4G smartphone in partnership with Google. During RIL’s 444th Annual General Meeting, Ambani said the JioPhone Next will be a fully featured smartphone co-developed by Google and Jio with extremely optimised Android software and cutting-edge features like voice assistant, automatic read-aloud of screen text, language translation, smart camera with augmented reality filters and much more. Alphabet and Google CEO Sundar Pichai said the JioPhone Next will be built for India (though RIL plans to make it available globally as well). The JioPhone Next will be launched in India on September 10.

The JioPhone Next will be available for purchase from September 10. The price of the smartphone has not been revealed yet, but Reliance has plans to take it beyond India once it is rolled out in India.
Ambani stressed that the JioPhone Next will be amongst the most affordable smartphones in India and globally.

During the announcement, Reliance Industries’ Chairman Mukesh Ambani said that the JioPhone Next will be ‘ultra-affordable’, while still boasting of features like a smart camera with augmented reality features.
“Jio has handled at one point a monthly traffic of over 6 billion GB a month and is the world’s second largest mobile data carrier.”
“During recent spectrum auctions, we have invested Rs 57,123 cr to acquire significant additional spectrum, making Jio the largest operator of 4G spectrum in India. We have operationalised nearly 100 per cent of this additional spectrum,” Ambani added.
Speaking on the 5G technology, Ambani said that Jio has successfully demonstrated its might in trials, where the data speed exceeded 1 GB per second.
