At Reliance’s Annual General Meet 2020 the company announced a partnership with Google. Mukesh Ambani announces that Google will invest Rs 33,737 cr for a 7.7% stake in Jio Platforms. In addition, Jio also revealed that the company is developing Jio TV Plus, Jio Glass, and more. The company also announced details about JioMart and Jio 5G solution.

Ambani said, “Jio has developed a complete 5G solution from scratch that will enable us to launch a world-class 5G service in India.” The telecom operator promises 100 percent home developed 5G. Trials to start soon and will be ready for field deployment by next year. Ambani also announced that Google and Jio are partnering to build an Android-based smartphone operating system.

Mukesh Ambani said, “Jio’s global-scale 4G and fiber network is powered by several core software technologies and components. It is this capability and know-how that positions Jio on the cutting edge of another exciting frontier – 5G”.

He further said, “Jio has designed and developed a complete 5G solution from scratch. It will be ready for trials as soon as 5G spectrum is available and can be ready for field deployment next year”.

Jio Platforms is conceived with the vision of developing original, captive intellectual property, using which we can demonstrate the transformative power of technology across multiple ecosystems – first in India, and the rest of the world, Mukesh Ambani said at the 43rd RIL AGM.

This is the first virtual 43rd Annual General Meeting. The event is hosted through video conferencing and other audio-visual means. Having developed end-to-end 5G technology, Jio would be able to bring a wide array of use cases like security and surveillance using drones, industrial IoT, and digitization in the agriculture sector.

Jio had reportedly sought the Department of Telecommunications’ approval to conduct lab testing of 5G products that the Mukesh Ambani-led telco has developed on its own.

Jio will be undertaking the whole process of setting up the network at its premises without the involvement of any third-party vendor or technology provider.

The telecom operator had earlier this year submitted separate applications for 5G field trials. It plans to trial 5G technology and works on use cases with all telecom gear vendors, including Samsung, Nokia, Ericsson, Huawei, and ZTE.

“We have fully kickstarted five accelerators of growth of digital connectivity: Mobile broadband, JioFiber, Jio’s enterprise broadband, broadband for SMEs, and Jio’s Narrowband Internet-of-Things (NBIoT),” Ambani noted.

Jio Platforms, with over 20 startup partners, has built world-class capabilities in technologies such as 4G, 5G, Cloud computing, Devices and OS, Big Data, AI, AR/VR, Blockchain, Natural Language Understanding, and Computer Vision, he said.

“Using these technologies, we can create compelling solutions across multiple industry verticals like media, financial services, new commerce, education, healthcare, agriculture, smart cities, smart manufacturing & smart mobility,” he said, adding Jio Platforms is conceived with the vision of developing original, captive intellectual property, using which we can demonstrate the transformative power of technology across multiple ecosystems – first in India, and then rest of world.

The momentum in favor of secure 5G is building. The UK joins democracies such as the Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Latvia, Poland, Romania, and Sweden in banning Huawei from future 5G networks, he said.

“Clean carriers like Jio in India, Telstra in Australia, SK and KT in South Korea, NTT in Japan, and others have also prohibited the use of Huawei equipment in their networks,” he added.
