Indian telecommunication giant Reliance Jio has confirmed that its upcoming affordable smartphone called JioPhone Next will be released in time for the Indian festival Diwali (November 4, 2021). Earlier this year, Reliance announced that the phone will be available by September. The JioPhone Next was originally announced at the Annual General Meeting held by Reliance this year where Mukesh Ambani announced that the smartphone is going to be the most affordable 4G phone across the world. 

The ultra-affordable 4G handset was unveiled by Reliance Industries Chairman Mukesh Ambani and Google CEO Sundar Pichai at RIL’s annual general meeting (AGM) on June 24, 2021. During the unveiling, Ambani said that the JioPhone Next will be the “most affordable smartphone” in the world.

Reliance recently shared some details about the JioPhone Next and how it has worked with Google to deliver a made-in-India smartphone.

The phone is aimed at helping India’s estimated 300 million 2G users shift to 4G without breaking the bank. The smartphone is powered by an “extremely optimized version” of the Android operating system, jointly developed by Google and Jio and tailored for the Indian market.

Here are a few features of JioPhone Next: Voice Assistant

Voice assistant helps users to operate the device (Open App, manage settings, etc.) and get information/content from the Internet easily in a language familiar to them.

Read Aloud‘Listen’ functionality allows users to have content on any screen read out to them by the device. This allows users to consume content by listening in a language that they can understand.

Translate‘Translate’ functionality allows users to have any screen translated to the language of user choice. This allows users to read any content in their language of preference.

Smart CameraThe device is equipped with a smart and powerful camera that supports various photography modes such as Portrait mode allowing users to capture great photos with automatically blurred backgrounds. Night mode allows users to capture great photos even under low light. The camera app also comes preloaded with custom Indian augmented reality filters to enhance the pictures by associating them with emotions and festivities.

Jio and Google Apps preloaded device supports all the available android apps which users can download and use in the device via Google Play Store thus giving them the freedom to choose from lacs of apps available on the Play Store. It also comes preloaded with a host of Jio and Google apps.

Automatic Software upgrades JioPhone Next remains up to date with automatic software updates. The experience is only going to get better over time with the latest features delivered automatically. It also comes with security updates ensuring a hassle-free experience.

Reliance JioPhone Next pricing

According to a report by ET Now, Reliance Jio is going to be available in two different models including Basic and Advanced. These variants are expected to be priced at Rs. 5,000 and Rs. 7,000 respectively and might be differentiated in terms of RAM and storage capacity. Reliance has already partnered with multiple banks in India to facilitate the purchase of JioPhone Next by interested customers through credit.
